29.08.2011 Stuck in the Serengeti
Kelvin wanted to surprise me by hiring a jeep to drive us through the Serengeti to get back to Arusha, rather than taking a bus around it.  I was excited!  No, we wouldn’t stop to see the animals closely, but we would still see them.  It was a free safari!  We were supposed to meet the second driver, the one that was taking us to Arusha, at 6 am, but we were two hours late, because our first driver was late.  Kelvin was allowed through the gate for free because he works for the national parks, and I was allowed in for free because I was with him.  We were dropped off at a camp site by the first driver, to meet the second driver who would take us the rest of the way.  Little did we know, he left without us.  We were stranded in the Serengeti, with no ride to Arusha, and no ride back to Mwanza.  We hung out at the camp sight for a few hours, talking and hoping somebody would come that we could bum a ride from.  Hours later, we decided to walk to the gate, and find the main road back to the bus station, and hitch a ride from there.  Walking back in the Serengeti made me a little nervous, but I felt safer being with Kelvin.  At the gate, we quickly found a man who offered us a ride back to the bus station.  It was getting late, so we took a bus back to Mwanza to spend the night at Kelvin’s aunt’s house.
